how's it goin I thought I'd do sumn a lil different
I've recently gotten on a modded minecraft kick again (you know. The infamous 2 week minecraft phase) and it's really got me hooked this time I think. At least I hope.
like many people I was really trying to think about how to prolong this phase, if not with friends then just with myself. Most of the time, when gathering to play minecraft with my friends, we'll start up a server, be decently active for the first few days, and then the amount of people on the server will just drop off a cliff. Usually I witness this firsthand-- I usually spend a lot of time on the server, even long after the initial start. It's a little sad, to want to have fun with friends but find yourself being the only one online most of the time. I can only guess that they'd quickly lose interest, as I'd see them playing other games in the meantime. And that's perfectly cool: I really wouldn't want to force them to play anything they wouldn't want to. It's just... we'd hype up a server as being "the one", y'know? One that we'd be consistently playing for weeks at a time, crafting our own little stories, and then it just... doesn't end up happening. We did have one server that went on for a LONG time, but we've kinda failed in trying to recapture that magic every single time. And to a certain extent, that's fine-- people grow older, more jaded, and things just don't have the same sort of pull that they once did. Still, we have that same desire to recreate that situation.
Anyhow I'm kinda waffling around my point. I started a modded world (singleplayer, mostly cuz I didn't think anyone else would join me), and I was looking for ways to keep the fire burning, y'know? Namely, I watched SirGiovanni's video about extending the 2 week Minecraft phase and it did kinda open my eyes a little bit. In it, they posit that the best way to keep playing in a Minecraft world is to make it interesting (i.e. focusing on building, making stories, and using your own imagination to enhance your base instead of just going through the motions). I was never really much of a builder... I always thought my stuff looked terrible lmao
but it really stuck with me. In the past, I would always come up with my own reasons or backstories for basing in the places that I did (esp when in a multiplayer server with friends). The jaded part of me wants to call it cringe, of course, but maybe younger me was really onto something! Usually in these singleplayer modded instances I make for myself, I'll make myself a house, maybe have a room for each specific purpose, but never really iterate on it beyond that. 'Course, part of that's because I don't like to terraform (I don't like making my base area flat. I want to work with the terrain generation most of the time), but maybe that's something to work on. Ideally, I could even ask people to join in on my endeavors. I always like to play multiplayer Minecraft when I get the chance (even if I focus too much on playing the game instead of getting into funny antics sometimes).
this entry kinda feels a bit meandering, so here's some pictures of my base!
