April 30 2025 - The 2 Week Minecraft Phase, Revisited

Music: Ocean Theme From Terraria

What's up. How's it goin. It's ya boy. Mr. Doesn't Update His Damn Blogs Anymore.
there's a lotta things I should probably talk about but let's start with Minecraft. Remember the last time I talked about it and said that that singleplayer was gonna be the one to go for a while guys I swear? yeah well that didn't happen LMAO
and that's fine! sometimes you just move on to other things. Nothin' to cry over, really. Plus, when you're an adult, you get busy, soooooo...
I don't really have a lot of incentive to go and play on the same singleplayer world continuously. I like to try different mods, and a good amount of them require making a new world. Just how it is. And besides, I'm not really a gifted builder like the best of them. I try my hardest, but for a long while I was one of those adventuring types who mostly just focused on the game progression. And the consensus is that that sort of playstyle doesn't particularly lend itself well to playing the same world for extended periods of time.
I feel like multiplayer really changes that, though. Now I have an incentive to go and make bigger and better builds because that's something that other people will see! Aside from that, I can make spaces with more utility than just functional blocks (chests, furnaces, smithing tables and the like). It's a great opportunity, I'd say.
if only I had friends who could play on the same server as long as I do.
I've taken part in several different SMPs mostly just within a friend group of mine, and a lot of the time we'll all start out and do our thing, and over the coming days, the player count slowly dwindles until I hardly see anyone on the server. At that point I stop playing too, the server dies out, and the cycle repeats-- and the cycle's repeated more than a few times, I'll tell you that much.
However, I recently started hosting my own minecraft server, and invited a few of my close friends from college. It's been a lot of fun! We've been takin it slow, and doing a lot of building, and have got some really great builds to show for it! I haven't really seen any dwindling of the people getting on either. It's really nice!
I suppose sometimes, all you need to keep a minecraft server going is some variety in the players (there's also the fact that this server has been up for nearly a month and we still haven't beaten the Ender Dragon. That might help lol).
Specifically, I've been working on a Create railroad connecting the bases and important locations of everyone in the server. It's a chill, ongoing project, but critically I swap to something else once I get bored of that. Mostly it's other things, like building an enclosure for all my pets, working on my own personal Create factory and storage system (6.0 is a godsend like holy shit), or exploring some of the caves added in Alex's Caves. There's a lot to do, but again, I'm taking my time with it, and it's working out!

as a bonus: here's some screenshots for ya:
